Sexy Rexy for President: Week 1 NFL Stuff
I haven’t talked much football at all since last season. The lockout drained any potential excitement I had for the upcoming season and I didn’t want to talk about it. Happily, the issue got resolved, preseason games happened, and the NFL I know and love is on as if nothing ever happened. So without further ado (although I tend to add a lot of ado as I go; really, I often throw in so much ado that sentences become incomprehensible and parenthetical asides becoming paragraphical asides, but hey, I like having a lot of ado around.), here are my thoughts after 1 week of NFL action.
Meet Rex Grossman, Starting QB for the Redskins
A lot of people have asked for my reaction to Donovan McNabb getting benched and Rex “Sex Cannon” Grossman getting the start against Dallas this week. OK, a few people did. Or one. Fine, in actuality no one did. But I am going to talk about it anyway.
My flip one-liner response that came to me right after I heard the news was this: Wow, I would care if it was still football season. Read the rest of this entry
Something Brief While I Take A Noveling Break
So far, so good. I’ve hit (or ever-so-slightly exceeded) the 1,667 word daily quota each day. I haven’t been able to build a buffer yet, which isn’t great, but I’ll still take it. The site this year adds some interesting stats, like how many days in a row you’ve made quota, how many words you need each day based on your current output, things like that. It’s funny, because if I write 5,000 words today and 500 tomorrow, that would be well above a two-day quota, but since the site would call that 1 Successful Day and 1 Unsuccessful Day, it makes me want to hit the minimum at least every time. Ahh, the incentives that stats bring.
A couple of things I’ve had on my mind the last few days: Read the rest of this entry
OK, So I Enjoyed That Game A Little Bit
After posting my Vick thoughts, spurred by the clamoring calls for Vick to be awarded the MVP trophy after 2 weeks of decent football amid a wash of adoring talk about how he’s overcome adversity – adversity caused by his enjoyment of torturing and killing dogs, but mostly just for betting on them – I really wanted the Redskins to beat the Eagles. I mean, I hungered for it, craved it, but it took some time for me to believe they could do it. Read the rest of this entry
Some Quick Redskins Thoughts
Last year, September 28th to be precise, I predicted that JIm Zorn would be fired and replaced with Mike Shanahan. I was right, just like I was with Chris Samuels’ retirement. Neither pleased me overmuch, since it meant that the ‘Skins truly did have an awful year, and one of the offensive line stalwarts was gone for good. It kind’ve takes the wind out of the old sails.
So, we’ve had two meaningless preseason games so far, and thus it is time to reflect on what I see. I am glad we have Donovan McNabb. I think he does a lot of McNabb Things, like the grounder to the tight end, that I don’t like, but the clutch play on third down that has murdered the Redskins for years will be in our favor this time. He has a much better record in the Skins stadium than any QB we’ve actually employed, so I’d rather have him.
So, Donovan McNabb is a Redskin
Five Things for Wednesday, Feb 17th
1. My frazzled work-self is making it difficult for me to write. I can barely think of five things to talk about without making one of them a ranty bitchy screed that no one cares about. Of course, almost no one reads this anyway, so what’s the harm? I guess I’d prefer to talk and think about other things.
Five Things for January 7th
1. Happy birthday to my awesomely amazing wife! I love you so much!
2. As I type this, The Dream Machine is being assembled in the basement. What is The Dream Machine? Only the biggest home gym we could find. After today, it’s time to buckle down and work out again after a long holiday hiatus. I miss how much better I feel when I’m eating right and exercising, but I am going to miss hot chocolate with big dollops of marshmallow fluff in it. Ah well. Everything in moderation.
