Three Things for Tuesday, March 2
1. Yesterday was too soul-crushing to write a new post. Nothing noteworthy happened, just the standard work-day stuff on a Monday when you’d give anything for one more day at home with your wife. It was enough to destroy any literary ambitions for the day, even ones as feeble as this.
2. I started playing Dragon Age over the weekend. At first I wasn’t terribly impressed, but I have to admit it’s growing on me more and more. After Mass Effect, having your character stand mute and slightly-dazed looking while everyone has a conversation around you is a little bit of a let-down. The combat tactics setup-thing is WAY more involved than I’d ever want to get into, and the “I’m in combat mode and therefore can’t open doors” is about the gheyest thing I’ve seen in a game in a long time, especially when it results in getting stuck in a room with no reachable opponents and closed doors and that infuriating fucking combat music playing while you get more and more pissed off at having to reload the last save. The party interactions are interesting, although the chick bard seems to get WAY serious WAY fast. I mean, yeah, I gave you a flower, it’s cool, now you are talking about undying love? She’s a bit clingy. I’m much happier switching over the Casual play, just because dying 5 or 10 times in a row in the same fight gets real old real fast. Better now that I have a healer, but still, it detracted a lot. I don’t really play the game for the combat, so I’d rather just spend less time thinking about it.
3. It’s funny how sometimes your friends will do something hugely life-altering for themselves, like move or get married or whatever, and part of you almost feels indignant because they are changing YOUR life as well. Who says you’re allowed to move away? That doesn’t fit into my plans!
