I’ve decided to stop posting excerpts of my NaNoWriMo novel while it’s being written.  I’d rather give the readers (both of them) the opportunity to read the whole thing at their own pace.  This way, any alterations with the previously posted material won’t cause confusion (yes, despite my attempts to hold down my Inner Editor, I occasionally let him free to zip around, especially when he thinks of a detail that may be pertinent and belongs in an earlier section).  So, for the person reading the excerpts, I hope you aren’t disappointed that you’ll have to wait about 22 more days to read it.

The writing is going really well, thanks to my awesomely amazing wife who, instead of grudgingly giving me time at night to write, actually encourages me to do so, volunteering to do things like shopping by herself to give me time.  I’m trying to keep a good balance between writing and responsibilities, and I hope she lets me know when I’m letting one or the other slip.  So far so good, though – over 15,000 words written, more than I’d been able to do in previous months of work.  I haven’t lost steam yet, and I hope that the dreaded Week 2 Effect doesn’t hit me.  I’m a little trepidatious, though, as I am now to the point where the characters are introduced and the setting established, and now it’s time to get on with the action.  Can I write action?  God I hope so.

  1. Disappointed? Yeah, have to confess to some disappointment as I looked forward to the daily installments for stress relief at work. But totally understand and totally support the decision. I’m just looking forward to reading more later. And having heard you describe action extremely well many times, I, for one, am confident that the act of transferring that description to written word will be successful.
